Tamayo is located in one of the city's oldest buildings. It is named after famed Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo and is decorated with large mosaic murals inspired by his work. But the real artistry comes from Chef Richard Sandoval's kitchen. It might possibly be the only Mexican restaurant that does not boast of award winning margaritas.
Tamayo has offered one of Denver's top dining experiences since it opened in 2001, and the menu is indeed the central reason. Sandoval takes the culinary traditions of Mexico and fuses them with contemporary American flair, for dishes that are as visually appealing as they are uniquely flavorful. The colorful, comfortably modern decor, the culturally electric atmosphere, and particularly the brilliantly conceived cuisine, designed by Manhattan- based restaurateur Richard Sandoval truly adds to the elegance of Tamayo.
Tamayo has a nice wine list but an even more impressive selection of more than 100 tequilas. Request a table on the rooftop patio to enjoy a sweeping panorama of the Rocky Mountains with your dinner. Service is brisk but helpful and good suggestions are offered about pairing dishes with the specialty tequila drinks.
