Denver International Airport

When you hear of people referring to Denver Airport, most likely they are referring to Denver International Airport. Based on land size alone, this Denver Airport is actually the biggest among US international airports. Denver International Airport is now the seventh busiest US airport based on passenger traffic. In fact, in 2006 alone Denver Airport had 9.1% more passenger traffic in the airport compared to 2005 levels. Denver International Airport is run by the City and Council of Denver, Colorado. One flaw in the system of Denver Airport cropped up when the computerized baggage system was installed but failed to live up to software engineering expectations. This computerized baggage system turned out to be too costly to maintain and was eventually abandoned by Denver Airport.

Runway

The runway of Denver Airport (called Runway 16R/34L) is the longest US runway existing for public use purposes. Denver International Airport is the fourth busiest among US airports at present. At present, Denver Airport relies on four more north/south parallel runways and two additional east/west parallel runways. Runway 16R/34L spans 16,000 feet and is the longest North American runway using commercial precision equipment. This particular runway at Denver International Airport can be used by jumbo jets (even when fully loaded.) Even the massive Airbus A380 can use the Runway 16R/34L safely due to its length. At maximum capacity, Denver Airport is expected to be able to serve 110 million passengers annually. To guarantee safety further, it is trying to check the concrete integrity of runways.
