In 1976, the city of Denver was chosen to host the Winter Olympics which coincided with the centennial celebration of Colorado. Consequently, the public funds of the city were allocated to pay for the costs of the games so it has to be moved to Austria's Innsbruck. Due to this decline, hosting an Olympiad became difficult from then on.
